A couple of weeks ago while searching for a good cafe bandwagon to hop on in Taipei, I chanced upon a post on Voodoo Doughnut opening it's first store in Taiwan. If you haven't heard of this name, Voodoo Doughnut is a famous doughnut shop based in Portland, Oregon, well known for its eccentric, unusual shaped doughnuts, and of course their super iconic pink boxes. Having not been able to try any Voodoo doughnuts in my life, I've set out a food hunt to try out these legendary doughnuts.
Everyone in my family was busy doing their own stuff during that couple of hours, and feeling a little adventurous, I decided to walk the distance of more than 3 MRT stations (multiplied by 2 back and forth) alone to find this spot.
Directly opposite to 松山文创区域
After 3 kilometres under the scorching hot sun, I finally arrived at this place. Taiwan during summer is no joke, so frickin' hot.
Grand opening on 18th of July!
I was there on the 16th of July, which was only their soft opening. They had their soft opening for a month before officially opening on the 18th.
There was a long queue of people waiting for their doughnuts when I arrived. Most popular doughnuts - Bacon Maple Bar, Gay Bar, Voodoo Doll were out of stock. And they were whipping up a new batch of their iconic Voodoo Doll when I ordered mine, waited 20 minutes for it. Luckily there were tables for us to wait and sit at.
Cute case displaying their doughnuts
Pastel pink and blue
They sell drinks too!
Love the stained glass on their window
The guy on the table to my left was vigorously taking pictures of the doughnuts with his DSLR and there I was taking pictures with my Galaxy Note 4 *laugh cries*.
Finally got my doughnuts! Ordered 9 just for the sake of this review.
And of course I had to take my box of doughnuts for a series of photograph sessions.
Good things come in Pink (and Orange) boxes!
Nom
Name: Voodoo Doll
Price: NTD 90 (approx. SGD 3.90, Rp. 38,000)
Fell in love with how cute it looked at first sight! however the taste was like any other normal chocolate frosted doughnut, except personally, I really didn't like the raspberry jam inside - it was a little sour and there was too much filling inside compared to the amount of dough outside. The pretzel stick also got a little soggy overnight in the fridge when I did my taste test the second day.
Would I recommend this? Yes because of it's cute appearance, not really for it's taste.
Name: Old Dirty Bastard Doughnut
Price: NTD 75
"Raised yeast doughnut with chocolate frosting, Oreo's and peanut butter!"
Name: Taipei Cream
Price: NTD 55
The shop attendant told me that it is called Taipei Cream because of the "101" written on it to represent the iconic Taipei 101 building. This doughnut is only available in Taiwan and it was actually one of my favourite doughnuts from the batch! The outside is normal doughnut dough and is filled with cream puff pastry-like custard. It is glazed with a sugar coating which tasted slightly like maple syrup and caramel. Recommend to place it in the fridge before eating it -the cold cream filling ups the whole doughnut game!
Name: Diablos Rex Doughnut
Price: NTD 70
This one is more of a cake than a doughnut. It was supposedly a chocolate cake but it didn't taste much of chocolate or anything sweet. It was covered with chocolate frosting, chocolate chips, sprinkles, and a "spooky" vanilla pentagram. Great for a picture or two!
Name: Dirty Snowballs Doughnut
Price: NTD 70
I recommend trying this one! It is a cake-based doughnut like the Diablos Rex and it sprinkled with lightly sweetened normal and pink coconut flakes, topped with a dollop of peanut butter. It is not too sweet, and slightly crunchy from the coconut. Loved it!
Name: Cinnamon Crueller
Price: NTD 55
Crueller - a piece of dough that have been twisted and fried, generously coated in cinnamon sugar.
Name: Peanut Doughnut
"Plain cake doughnut with chocolate frosting and peanuts!"
This one wasn't in the menu. Only got this because I ordered the "Voodoo Party" set of doughnuts for NTD 550.
Name: Triple chocolate penetration doughnut
Price: NTD 55
Chocolate cake covered with chocolate frosting and chocolate puff balls cereal.
Name: The Loop
Price: NTD 52 (why 52, not 50, not 55?? whyyyy ._.)
Liked this one as well! Frosted with sugar frosting and covered in the iconic froot loops by Kellogg's. Really simple doughnut, nothing special or fancy, but it is a very good combination of flavours and textures.

Behind the scenes. Threw away most of the doughnuts because there was way too much calories and couldn't finish it before they've gone bad.
